what is the "col" value in visual studio text editor -


in bottom of visual studio text editor shows "ln x col y". line seems pretty self-explanatory , works predictably, i'm bit baffled "col" :-)

if there chinese characters in line, moving cursor to right (i.e. 1 character) seems advance "col" 1 , 2, thought multi-byte characters. counting?

a subsidiary question is: there simple way find out number of characters on line?

the difference between column , character positions evident characters such tab character can incorporate more 1 column.

rewrite - Trouble with Wordpress multiple custom querystrings -
